In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love had his head shaved by Arizona Cardinals star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald, who lost his mother in 2003 after she suffered a brain hemorrhage during treatment for breast cancer, is extremely dedicated to bringing awareness of the disease and raising funds for research and treatment. In 2011, Fitzgerald donated $.10 for every new follower he added on Twitter during the month of October.
Love, who is currently injured and not playing for the T’Wolves as he recovers from a hand injury he suffered while doing knuckle push-ups, gladly went under the clippers to have his scalp shaved for a good cause.
From the video’s description on YouTube:
n support of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love had Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald shave his head. The two are spreading love and awareness in an effort to raise money for breast cancer. Through Kevin’s community outreach program “SpreadLove”, he is supporting Bright Pink and Larry is supporting American Cancer Society/ Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. The two will donate 25 cents per share/like/view up to a total of $250,000! Please SpreadLove and Spread the Word!!
Some may wonder, though, what connection there may be between Kevin Love and Larry Fitzgerald. For one thing, Fitzgerald has strong ties to Minnesota. Raised in Minnesota, Fitzgerald starred at Holy Angels high school in the Twin Cities and served as a ball boy for the Minnesota Vikings at a time when standout wideouts Chris Carter and Randy Moss were terrifying opposing secondaries. Fitzgerald also hosts an annual football camp during the offseason in Minnesota and routinely trains in the Land of 10,000 Lakes with other NFL players during the summer.
But in the end, what matters most is that Love and Fitzgerald have partnered up to raise money for an incredibly worthwhile cause. Kudos to them both. And actually, K-Love doesn’t look too bad with shaved head, although I reckon he’ll let it grow back out.
