Cereal Killer: Coco Crisp robs Prince Fielder of home run in Game 3 of ALDS (vid)
Oakland Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp made the highlight play of the night by snatching back a home run ball smacked off the bat of Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder on Tuesday during the second inning of the Game 3 of the teams’ American League Division Series.
With two men on and two out in the top of the 2nd, Fielder ripped a pitch to deep right-center field. Approaching the wall, Crisp made a leaping effort, snagging the ball just as it was going over the fence.
The brilliant play preserved Oakland’s 1-0 lead and ultimately proved to be critical, as the A’s blanked the Tigers 2-0, getting a game back in the series which now sits at 2 games to 1 in Detroit’s favor.
Crisp’s phenomenal effort is by far the best play by an outfielder with a breakfast cereal-sounding name in a playoff game since Agnus “Snap” McCracklepop’s diving play during Game 2 of the 1904 World Series*.
