Sweet hair, brah: Michael Phelps’ Olympics head shot is hilarious (photo)

Ha. It looks like Michael Phelps combed his hair with a carameled apple. Or just rolled out of bed. One of the two.

Other than that — and the spaced-out look on his face and the fact it looks more like a mug shot than a head shot — the photo is great. Just great.

Apparently, Olympics head shots don’t have re-take day like school pictures. What a shame.

He looks fine. He looks like a stoner who just happens to be one of the greatest athletes of all time. It’s about time the federal government stopped lying to us about marijuana and let us *choose* if we want to partake or not.

You may never been to a swim meet and have seen the guys before they shave down. this is psych out the other swimmers to show they swam the seed times without being shaved or tapped for the last meet, so the worse he looks the better it is.

psych out i doubt it. wanting to actually have hair on your body yes. coming from a swimmer until “the meet” you have been training for you want as much hair on your body as possible. shaving it SUCKS at every level of the sport. so when we dont have to shave. WE LET IT GROW EVERYWHERE!

He is an embarrassment to the United States looking like that. Get your teeth fixed. You can certainly afford it!!!

wow… how American of you to judge a person based on their hair style and the shape/form of their teeth. You ma’am, are the embarrassment.

Judge not lest ye be judged! Don’t judge a book by its cover. Does any of this ring a bell in your head???? He looks great and have you been to the dentist lately? We should be supporting our athletes and not insulting them. They are there representing the greatest nation on earth and you are embarrassed by his hair and teeth? Give me a break. Go Michael you rock.

Amen!!! Judge not lest ye be christian!!! His hair? His teeth? What important things have you done with your “perfect hair and teeth”? He has won 16 olympic medals, 8 of them gold at Beijing!! The closest you’ll ever get to the olympics is a box of wheaties!!

Wow, Zach H. wrote, “Judge not lest ye be christian!!!” Are you judging all christians based on actions of a few professed christians? You are no different than M. A. C. judging Michael Phelps.

Stupid response. Looks like he just got out of the pool…where’s he supposed to be, and prior to shaving down. Don’t comment when you’re clueless…and rude!

Your comment that he is an embarrassment is the embarrassment. What a stupid, judgemental flake.

He looks like a typical American young person. He has much to be proud of, probably alot more than most people commenting here. He teeth are fine and in need of no improvement. You people are a hateful lot.

    • John

      July 25, 2012 at 3:30 pm

No. He looks like a slob. Many “typical” young people look like slobs apparently. But, he is representing the US. Wouldn’t hurt to try and look slightly more presentable. But, when you are world champion, you don’t have to care what others think. I don’t care. But, be honest and admit he looks like a slob and has that right.

I can’t believe some people think he’s an embarrassment to the US. He looks like a normal guy who didn’t feel like shaving or combing his hair. He’s fine…and he kicks butt.

    • Doc

      July 27, 2012 at 3:54 am

The guy is one ugly dude no matter how you look at it . . . and a moron to boot. gold don’t overshadow that !
I always thought it unfair. He’s taller, longer legs and arms than the shorter swimmers with shorter strokes, stature, etc,

It is a sport was never about how someone looks it is about how someone competes. If this was a fashion show then maybe embarassment otherwise who cares?

Let’s just be proud of our talented young people and support them. Michael is shy and not a public person. He does very generous things for disadvantaged youths. I say “You go, Michael ! Wear your hair anyway you like. “

I am curious as to when this picture was actually taken. A couple of weeks ago, at the Olympic trials, his hair was not nearly that long. Either his hair grow REALLY fast or this is an older picture. Either way, he kicks butt in the pool…so all you haters give the guy a break, unless you can do better. Then let’s see your picture. I am sure we could all rip you a new one too!

      July 25, 2012 at 9:46 pm

This IS an older picture. I believe from one of his not-so-stellar moments a few years ago (DUI or the bong incident?). He has learned from his mistakes, just like a lot of us, and I am proud to be a fellow Baltimorean and am very glad that MP is representing the USA so capably. Go, Michael!

  12. Who's the idiot here?

    July 25, 2012 at 1:42 pm

I think the biggest issue here is that this picture is posted for people to comment on in a negative light. “Weed Against Speed” is the one to blame for the mockery he is allowing to occur because of the title and commentary above and below this picture. Michael Phelps is one of the greatest athletes of all time. who cares about how his hair looks in one picture.

Yeah….ya know, I had athlete sons and I’m not a big stickler for formality, but America could “check the hall mirror” before exiting the house on the way to something as big as OLYMPICS. Even if this pic is just for the little plastic thingy that holds an ID on a lanyard,a little sense of decorum please, from the dumb Americans who stupidly sent Tanya Harding, trailer trash queen one year. [Before we put the girl she battered up for sainthood, lets remember that Nancy Kerrigan was victorious but mounted a float at DisneyWorld when she returned home to an adoring audience and thousands of children, and commented scowling and audible "This is the dumbest thing I've ever had to do!"] Remembering some doubtful East German women swimmers with muscle girth the size of male weight lifters and 5 o’clock shadow, it’s hard to criticize Mike. But lets just ramp up the standards to include NO pictures without proper grooming from the team. Easy. Not too much for a Michael. Mine swum and footballed, etc. and they could be told the school team had to travel in the jackets and hair had to be trimmed, etc. How about it? For America’s Moms and our image? Just because we owe China money doesn’t mean we can’t look better than they do, and BEAT ‘M!

Who the heck cares how he looks on a typical day for a young guy? As long as he can swim as well as he does, I don’t give a rat’s potootie.
    Swim, Michael, Swim!!!

What are you talking about Bill? Bad example? Oh, yes. On TV news, magazines, news papers we don’t see bad examples at all, just this photo is such a bad side. It’s just a normal guy without make-up on the front of the TV camera. I can guess your description for “proper”

I agree with those saying “Judge not”. It is sad there are so many people who only find joy when tearing down another. Do yo thang Mike!!!!! We all have a God given gift/talent, why not try to figure out what yours is and maximize it instead of tearing down another person who maximized theirs… He is paid to do something he enjoys, SWIM not win beauty contests. I’d bet most people have an ID that looks similar to his photo LOL. Stop hating the man
