Alexander Semin’s forehead gashed by World Championship gold medal (photo)
Given the pratfalls and mishaps that occurred following Russia’s 6-2 victory over Slovakia that clinched the gold medal for Russia’s national team at the IIHF World Championship, perhaps it would be a good idea for the Russians to be a little more careful the next time they achieve global hockey glory.
To wit: goaltender Semyon Varlamov fell while holding the trophy, Alexander Ovechkin fell down while hoisting coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov into the air and now comes word that Alexander Semin, Ovie’s teammate on the Washington Capitals, suffered a gash when the gold medal draped on his chest dug into his flesh on his forehead as he removed his jersey.

Question: “Is it from a hit by a Slovak?”
Alex Semin: “Oh no, I was pulling my jersey off and smacked myself on the head with the medal. And it cut the skin open. It’s heavy!..”
Good grief. Gashed by gold. That’s goofy. Additional world starting with “G.”
