ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski reported that the New England Patriots head coach was his usual blustery self as he made his way around Spyglass Hill while taking part in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am alongside playing partners Ricky Barnes and Bud Cauley and Alabama coach Nick Saban. Really, his gruff demeanor shouldn’t be surprising at all, given that he was just four days removed from a devastating Super Bowl loss, which probably had something to do with mention his refusal to talk football at any length. Still, Bill Belichick apparently found it irresistible not to slip in a little zinger at the expense of the controversy generated this week by his quarterback’s wife’s critical comments of the team following the game on Sunday.
Belichick’s brief foray into discussing the Super Bowl, as he insisted that he “was just out here having fun”:
“Hell, yes, I told our guys, ‘Make them go to Manningham,’” said the New England Patriots coach Thursday, confirming an NFL Films audio recording from the final minutes of Super Bowl XLVI. “You think I wanted Gisele to yell at me too? Everyone knows you have to stop Cruz and Nicks on that play.”
Haha. What a cad, that guy. But then again, what else would you expect from a roller-skating pirate?
