NFL players, both former (Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice, to name a few) and ones who participated while their NFL careers were still in full swing (Hines Ward and Chad Ochocinco, among others) have done it, so why not Tim Tebow?
That is likely at least part of the reasoning behind Dancing with the Stars regular Karina Smirnoff expressing her wish that the Denver Broncos quarterback be her next celebrity partner. Celebrating her 34th birthday in Las Vegas, Smirnoff had this to say about her desire to do the hot trot with Tim Tebow (via People):
“All I want for my birthday is for Tim Tebow to dance on Dancing with the Stars,” she said Saturday, not long after Tebow and his Broncos team were ousted from the NFL playoffs by Tom Brady and his Patriots. “Tim is a very talented athlete, that was clear when we saw his performance this past season with Denver.
“He can run, jump, pass, throw touchdowns,” she told PEOPLE. “All [that] is missing is to see if he has the dance skills. That would make him an all around athlete and someone that I would love to dance with on the show.”
Fair enough, and if possible, landing Tebow would be quite the score for the show, as his presence would surely cause the show’s upcoming season to be a ratings juggernaut. Unfortunately, given Tebow’s staunch religiosity, as far as dancing is concerned, I suspect that Tebow’s opinion of cutting a rug might be more in line with Footloose‘s Reverend Shaw Moore than with Miss Smirnoff’s, so I wouldn’t expect Tebow to kick off his Sunday shoes and join in while everybody cut, everybody cut.
