Tebow Responds To Plummer’s Jesus Criticism By Reiterating That He Loves Jesus
ByThe Denver Broncos QB made an appearance on ESPN’s First Take program on Tuesday morning and invariably, the topic of former NFL quarterback Jake Plummer’s critique regarding Tebow’s incessant praising of Jesus whenever he gets a chance came up as a topic of discussion. Of course, Tebow responded in typical Tebow-esque manner: self-assured and composed, all the while incorporating heavy doses of “I love Jesus” into his response. As transcribed by Pro Football Talk:
“If you’re married, and you have a wife, and you really love your wife, is it good enough to only say to your wife, I love her, the day you get married? Or should you tell her every single day when you wake up and have the opportunity? And that’s how I feel about my relationship with Jesus Christ,” Tebow said. “It is the most important thing in my life, so every opportunity I have to tell him I love him, or I’m given an opportunity to shout him out on national TV, I’m going to take that opportunity.”
The entire comparison between saying you love your wife every day and screaming it from the hilltops or whenever a microphone is shoved in your face is a bit forced, not to mention a stretch if you ask me, but it was said during a live television interview and perhaps his thoughts were not articulated exactly the way Tebow wished. He continued, explaining how the hierarchy of things he loves in his life breaks down:
“I look at it as a relationship I have with him, I want to give him the honor and glory every time I get the opportunity,” Tebow said. “And then after I give him the honor and glory I always try to give my teammates the honor and glory, and that’s how it works. Because Christ comes first in my life, and then my family, and then my teammates. I respect Jake’s opinion, and I really appreciate his compliment of calling me a winner, but I feel like every time I get the opportunity to give the Lord some praise he is due for it because what he did for me, and what he did on the cross for all of us. I really appreciate his opinion and I respect him, but I still will give all the honor and glory to the Lord because he deserves it.”
Whether or not Tebow feels the Lord deserves constant praise is immaterial to the conversation. Plummer’s criticism was that Tebow shouldn’t feel the need to say it at every opportunity. We all get it by now: Tim Tebow loves Jesus and his relationship with his Lord and Savior has been so overly covered by the Broncos QB it has practically reached to the point that whatever message Tebow is trying to convey gets lost in white noise of constant repetition.
Tebow should give it a rest. Everybody knows it. Cats and dogs probably are aware of it at this point. And by the simple act of refraining from speaking about it from time to time, perhaps it will cease to be a topic of discussion. Lord knows I could use a break from it.

im not even a huge christian, but let him go. folks who are saying this is a pleasant change of pace from most pro athletes are dead on. i would rather hear him give a sermon before every game than hear about strip clubs and cop chases and guns every week on sports center. it’s a shame he’s getting heat for this, and like i said, im not even a regular on sundays. DO WHAT YOU LIKE TEBOW, AND KEEP ON WINNING!!!
I love the Broncos i was praying that Tebow was going to be the QB I keepet telling my bro Michael by the way thanks for teaching me all about football,is Tebow playing is he kneeling to pray, i would wate watch enjoy just to see him play…kneel because We should give thanks to God not only for when sombody gets hurt or didn’t on the field but, just to give thanks to our Lord & savior for without him we would not be here ! so there is nothing wrong with giving Praise if Tebow wants to,I know i do everyday of my Life in evey Opportnity i get field or not it don’t matter were, Read John 3;16 Love in Christ Jesus,& love Football,Tracey
Wow.
The issue I have with it is that it sort of trivializes Jesus and God to give that sort of attention to what is really, after all, just a game. Its not as if he saved a life or did a particularly moral or spiritual act. Also, there are plenty of folks – the majority in fact, who don’t believe in Jesus or God, or don’t practice, or have different religions. To me, honoring your God should be done in private or in a house of worship, not on a football field.
The lord is to be praised whenever and wherever you are there are no restictions we are to be his light to others.
Bible says pray without ceasing – and in all things give thanks. Tebow is right on! Pray and thank the Lord for all things – big and small.
Why don’t we leave the Guy alone? It’s his belief, and not ours to judge!
Don
My thoughts exactly! People complain about athletes that continually get arrested for drugs and DWI etc… because they are poor role models yet when someone comes along that by all accounts seems to be a nice guy they bitch and moan because he’s too religious. I don’t understand the need to make fun of him. I’m personally not a overly religious person but if thats what he wants to do let him do it. I personally feel like if you are making fun of him you have a serious character flaw.
It is my belief that prayer is a private thing and that we should not pray in public to appear holy. Tim Tebow has the ability to be a great role model to a lot of young kids, but he can do better by serving the community and respecting his family.
I will not, however, bag on Tebow. There will be alot of people who make fun of him for his belief and love of God and I think that those people are pigs. I believe that anyone who mocks ones belief is a SELFISH pig.
Oink-Oink!
I feel sorry for you in that you feel so insecure about yourself that you criticize anyones love for anything. I probably wouldn’t do it but I think it’s cool that feels so strongly about it. The Republicans try to push religion on us like the Taliban or Al Queada; nothing is said. But this guy just wants to express it and move on. The wife ana
logy was beautiful. Maybe, you have only loved yourself and you think that’s been justified because you have some level of achievement with this column. Maybe, you still have some growing up to do. Later in life you are going to be embarrassed that you even expressed your criticism. I feel sorry for u now though. Proud veteran, father, son, husband and someone that has loved so many/much more than himself.
So well stated Larry! I cant agree with you more. This writer is ignorant to say the least. His comment “Cats and dogs probably are aware of it at this point.” just goes to show how pathetic he is.
I’m so happy to see Tebow worship OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR every chance he gets and doesnt care what anyone thinks!!!
What if the author is Buddhist or a Pastafarian? What if he doesn’t believe in YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR? Oops!
God wants Tebow to win. God wants Peyton Manning to lose.
It’s football people! Maybe Tebow should join the 700 Club and go preaching around the country?
Hat’s off to Tim Tebow. He is like a breath of fresh air, How long will it take for some sportswriter to see this is the kind of headlines that most sports fans want to read? I just don’t care who Arod slept with, who got drunk and wrecked their car, who lied to congress, who beat up their wife last night, how Tiger Wood will never be the same, what happened at the strip club, and all those wonderful things they choose to write about.
Let his record speak for itself, he is winning not because of his coach or GM, but in spite of them. I hadn’t watched an NFL game in ten years, but now I can hardly wait for Tebow and the Broncos to come on.
I agree, he is definitely a breath of fresh air. I’ve never seen anyone like Tebow. He plays hard, he wins games, he has such a positive attitude, and he gives all the credit for everything he does to God.
Do people critisize Desean Jackson when he does a stupid dance after making a touchdown? No. But they critisize Tebow for giving praise to someone other than himself.
Tebow fan for life. God bless Tebow.
God loves Tim Tebow and must really not like Peyton Manning. It’s not about defense or about playing football. They should change the name from the National Football League to the National God Praising League Which Happens to Play Football. Think of the T-shirt sales!
I just wish that when they would have a story about strip clubs or shooting, that they would include pictures.
Who wants to see that dork Tebow? Dorky Tebow fans who wouldn’t know what footbal is if Clay Matthews tackled them in their own living room.
f*** YOU Jusus freaks. I’m sick of reading your posts.
Yet, you keep reading them. You must find something you like about them deep down inside. I suggest you read one of the Gospels and find out what it is.
But what is a gospel? I only read comic books and porn ads.
‘gospel’ means good news, and it refers to the good news of Jesus the Christ.
“one of the gospels” of which Michael refers to is the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. I would recomment starting with John. If you only read one book in your life, let it be the gospel according to John.
I’ll admit it. I keep reading your (Jesus freaks) comments, because I find people who abandon logic in exchange for fairy tales absolutely fascinating!!!
You just gave me an idea! I’m going to make myself a new t-shirt with “I’m a JESUS FREAK” on it so those who scoff at scripture will make themselves known to me so I can have the opportunity to witness to them.
Thanks and God bless you!
Guess you will be in hell then… wonder who you will be cursing then??? Moron!
Not nice for a kind Christian soul to name call. I , on the other hand, called no one a moron or any other derogatory names. So F*** you AND yo mamma. lol
@ mike..why is it that just cause we love the Lord you consider us “freaks”? No one saying anything bout changing religons, no one talking bout any ones denomination. I bet there is and was a time in your life that I know for a fact you said ” oh Lord help me outta this jam I put myself in and I promise I wont do it again”. And of course you gonna say “NO” blah blah blah but you know you did you cant even look in the mirror and deny that one.
You’re freaks because you believe in FICTION. Your entire religion is a mashed bag of mythology, astrology, paganism, tribal feuding, etc.. Your Christianity borrowed tales of sons of God from the greeks, your birth of the son of God comes from the Winter solstice. Do some reading of your religion’s history, and you’ll see that Jesus is really no different than a character out of a Disney movie. I feel sorry for you people I really do!!! Good luck to your Tebow, who I’d like to teabag!
It’s not mythical! The Flying Spaghetti Monster is real! Believe in all his noodly goodness!
There are really only 2 worldviews, Caleab. Either you have faith in God or you have faith in not-God.
Both positions require faith, neither can be proven absolutely.
The biggest difference between the two comes as the result of the question, ‘what if you are wrong?’
If the believer is wrong nothing happens.
If the non-believer is wrong, he spends eternity regretting it in agony.
Mike, Yes i am a JESUS FREAK for life and very proud to honor my father and savior above, I will pray for you not in sarcastic way but that is what you need . May God Bless and let you see truth.
Can you pray for me too? It’s Skippy McDoogal. 4567 Ate Lane. McSpastic City, Florida. I’d like a new bike and an X-Box 360. And a liver for my little brother.
God isn’t Santa Claus, Skippy. God’s gift of salvation is FREE for any willing to accept it.
I will pray for you and your brother.
i will pray for you mike. do you understand that ther are clearly two choices. love JESUS go to heaven. dont love JESUS you go to HELL. i am praying for your soul. you are loved.
We as Christain need to express our love for Christ by living it on the outside to witness to others as well as on the inside. It shows our love for him. This is the way Christ wants us to live our lives and Tim is doing exactly that. Are we all perfect Christains, no, for we are all sinners and have fallen short of the glory of God. That,s why Christ died on the cross and shed his blood for us. There’s too many who live the way of the world and wonder why things are the way they are. We need to wake up as a nation. With the way things are happening in this world from goverment down to us, we need to wake up. God is sending us a message and we’re not listening. We are suppose to be his caretakers and guess what, we are not doing a very good job of it. Only God knows when the end will come, so we better wake up before it’s to late. So what Tim is doing is exactly what God wants each and everyone of us to be doing. This is the way we express our love for God by witnessing to others. My hat off to Tim for expressing his faith and love for our Awesome God.
But what about all of the Jewish football fans? What about the 5 billion or so other people in the world that aren’t christians? They might not want to see Timmy preaching to them every Sunday.
Also, Timmy gets paid to play football. It’s a business and he is getting rich doing it. Isn’t that a sin? If you take what the bible says literally, he should be resting on Sunday or at least not playing FOOTBALL FOR MONEY. Many forms of the Christian faith do not do business on Sundays….for example…the Amish.
Hey Skippy, I’m one of those jewish football fans that could care less about little timmy preaching to me during every interview every Sunday. I thought violating the Sabbath was mentioned somewhere in the 10 commandments. How’s that working out for Tebow and all you Christians supporting him? And yes, I realize the Sabbath is tradtionally Saturday!!! I’ll grant he just lays in bed all day Saturday, because “Lord” knows he’s not doing any business with the Broncos on that day, right? Talk about cultural relativism.
Looks like you havent read the scriptures yet, Skippy.
Sin to make money? no. The gift of salvation is FREE but it takes money to spread that Word across the world.
Did you know Timmy is building a hospital for the Phillipines? Did you see the kid from ‘make a wish’ that he brought ot the game and had on the sidelines? Did you see the cancer patient he brought to Denver to be at the game? Do you know he gives away millions to be used in spreading the good news of Jesus?
Geez, I dont even LIKE the Broncos and you got me defending Tebow.
Your interpretation of the bible is -not suprisingly- way off the mark.
the bible states we are to work six days, then one day of rest. regardless of what day that is. do you know why we go to church on sunday. read john ; 20. i am sure you have time to read this. i doubt you ever work six days in a week!
This is really surprising, yet expected. All those attacks on Tebow confirm what Jesus said: the world will not like you because you are light. One person said that Plummer and others are only condemned in their hearts by Tebow’s Jesus celebration, he was right. Plummer needs to examine his heart because that is the source of his problem.
I am watching the Packers vs. Lyons thanksgiving game and Jennings just scored a TD. Guess what he did in the end zone: one knee down, he was thankful to God for the TD.
So now you Plummer and Weed against Speed, spread your hatred on him too…
Was he really thanking God for the TD? Wow, do you read minds? Or, is God deciding who wins and loses on Sundays?
How stupid to rag on Tebow! If he were shooting folks, raping women etc…like many of the other players theose ragging on him would be saying he needs a second chance!
Its good a young person tries to be so different other than smoking dope, drinking like a fish in water, abusing women etc…so back off!
Tebow! you are going to be one of the greatest ball palyers just keep the faith, keep believing and watch the hands of God work for your life!
It’s so encouraging to read so many posts by people who seem to care about what matters in life rather than the things John Elmer talked about, and what most celebrities care about. I think Tebow is a great role model in professional sports, and I hope the media and all the negative commentary doesn’t break him. I went to undergrad with Tebow, I met him personally, and he is a truly good-hearted person. I will back him no matter what his beliefs.
Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
Jake, You should be ashamed of yourself.Don’t be jealous because you never got praised here in Denver. What an Idiot!! Tim is doing something that should have happened a long time ago.Praise the Lord!!! I’m not the greatest christian but I love people and Tebow.I have no tolerance for people like Jake. Don’t hate, congratulate!!! If you have nothing positive to say,Don’t say anything at all.
OK, we get it: when it comes to CHRISTIAN free speech, that means the only thing acceptable is …A MOMENT OF SILENCE
Well if the bad people hate you its because you are on the right track GO TEBOW God bless man!
I heard from very reliable sources that Jesus was the unibomber, not to mention a child molester that hired the whole faculty at Penn State in 1961. Joe Paterno, it was revealed was famous for fondling defensive backs with tatoos on their asses.
no mike it was moses that was the pedophile
Mike, you sound like someone who really is ignorant concerning God’s
Word. But I will tell you one truth you can look for. There is coming a time when there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth by those who mock God. You sound like a likely candidate for this group. Sorry, about that.
What is so wrong with what he is doing? Have we became so vain and unloving that instead of giving that young man a pat on his back for loving the Lord we denounce him? But yet if he was out here acting all high and mighty the majority of the people denouncing him would say “he needs God in his life, he aint acting right”….s.m.h…. Do your thing Tebow remember what the Lord said ” Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.”
what is in the mind of Tbow, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” He will be thankful that he can play and will give glory to God win or lose. This is his right. The right to glorify God in his play and in his life.
This is disappointing–I liked Plummer a lot because he was a baller–I think we did him a dis-service, maybe in the same way we are doing one to Tebow, because he is not Elway, Brady, Luck, Rogers, etc. As for the religion, yes, let him be. It’s absolutely silly to let that bother you. There is a concept here, it’s called FREEDOM OF RELIGION. Look it up.
Why do you think it is that so many criticize Tim Tebow for expressing his faith yet so few criticized Muhamad Ali for expressing his? Ali praised Allah after every fight, remember Jake?
I have not been in a church in many years. But maybe a little more prayer (Christian, Hebrew, Muslim…) in our lives, sports, and schools would make this a better world to live in?
I have never liked the Denver Broncos, but now find myself pulling for them every week?
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out Tebow is a closet Ron Paul supporter or a or one of those conspiracy theory nuts.
It’s not about us,sports, or Tebow, it is all about the goodness of Jesus.
AMEN BROTHER, once people understand that, they will see good things in their life.
I think Tim Tebow’s relationship with God is a wonderful thing and should be shared by others the same that he shares with us. Who are we to dictate to him what he can or cannot do? There should be more athletes that honestly follow in this gentleman’s footsteps, than those we hear about who are constantly involved in drugs, shootouts, domestic violence, etc. My 17 year old son is an athlete and I would much prefer he follow in Tim Tebow’s footsteps than any others!! Kudos to Tim for being true to himself and for being willing to share it with all of us!
Jesus is stupid and so is Tebow!!! How’s that???
All of you who are Christians and support Tebow believe in an amalgam of astrology, mythology, paganism, and PURE FICTION!!!! I feel sorry for you people. I really do. But, good luck to you!
One more thing, what does Tebow pray for on the sidelines? God’s glory? A victory? Does he really think God (if it exists) gives a rat’s patooty about the outcome of a game or the game itself? If Tebow loses 5 games in a row, will Tebow believe he is like Job, being tested by God? If he fades off into irrelevancy, will he join a mega church and become the next great Evangelical retard who smokes speed and is a closet homo like Ted Haggert? Maybe he’ll go on to sell blessed water on some late night cable channel like Peter Popoff. Maybe he’ll actually take Plummer’s words to heart and quit throwing his religion in everyone’s face. Will you Christians show me mercy, and pray for me, or will you be like the Pharisees who stoned Steven to death merely for speaking truth to power?
Amen.
Your question ASSUMES he is praying FOR something because you dont know HOW to pray. He dropped ot his knee and thanked God for what transpired and then he thanked God for his ability and then gave God the glory for it all in the name of Jesus.
Why not actually read the book you are skeptical of? How can an intelligent person scoff at something they know nothing about?
The Sanhedrin stoned Stephen, not the Pharasees. See Acts chapter 7.
heaven and hell are both very real, AND VERY ETERNAL. assuming you know what that means. if GOD doesnt exist, how did we get here. what makes more logical sense. nothing blew up,(where did the matter come from?) evolved over billions of years, (where would the energy come from to sustain the universe that long?) and you went from the goo to the zoo to you?(do you have any idea how complex the simplest organisms are?) there has never been one, no not one piece of evidence to support evolution, ever. or a loving GOD who created us for ETERNAL relationship. please think about this while i pray for your ETERNAL soul.
If one of his famed prayers did something worthwhile, like stop the priest rapes or war or child hunger–I’d be right there with him, on my knees, But, frankly, nothing fails like prayer. Two hands working are worth far more than a thousand clasped in useless prayer.
As for how we got here, I don’t know. But, your goat herder religion as an explanation is silly and has been skewered repeatedly by scientific inquiry. Scientists have cured disease (Leprosy for one), curbed world hunger, and given us technology beyond belief. Religion gives us xenophobia, fear, and hate.
I love my God in heaven and he loves all of you to.I know you think Tim Tebow is doing somthing that he should not do. But listen God is for real he will come back and get his church and I plan to be part of that church. And Tebow does to.Go ahead and make fun of him you are not hurting him you are hurting yourself
AMEN!
sorry to end this, but i have a job.
