Oh, Snap! Aaron Rodgers Calls Mark Sanchez’s GQ Spread ‘Embarrassing’

By on September 7, 2011 at 11:10 am

Get it? Snap? Like how they’re both quarterbacks? Jeez, you people are hard to please.

On to the story: during a radio appearance by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on ESPN Milwaukee, the topic of New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez’s highly stylized photo spread in the September issue of GQ came up. Let’s just say Rodgers was not very impressed with his colleagues foray into fashion.

Via Pro Football Talk:

“Look at this,” Rodgers said. “That’s embarrassing. Page 94 of the GQ thing here. That’s terrible.”

Ooh! Quarterback Cat Fight! The photo Rodgers is referring to is the one you see directly above. And to be honest, I am inclined to agree with him. Nice white pants with black muscle shirt with white trim. I assume the fur-like coat is an homage to another Jets quarterback of yesteryear, Joe Namath, but that doesn’t necessarily make it right.

But in defense of Sanchez, there is this: he has to play up this kind of thing, considering he is a high profile player playing in high profile New York. Rodgers isn’t subjected to the standards Sanchez is held to living in Green Bay. And let’s be honest: if Rodgers donned that fur coat (or faux fur, whatever it is) and walked around Green Bay, some hunter might accidentally mistake him for wild game. And that wouldn’t be good.

  1. Dread Pirate Feist says:

He looks like he’s auditioning for Jersey Shore. It is disgraceful. Aaron is right.

  2. dont hate says:

you just hatin cuz nobody want you donnin any gear

  3. Sonny Jackson says:

Mark Sanchez is an ex-USC Trojan.

What would you expect ex-California Golden Bear Aaron Rodgers to do, compliment him? It’s bad enough he has to share a locker room with Clay Matthews, the Man of Troy himself!

  4. Ted Brown says:

Sanchez has not really lit it up like Rodgers has..Aaron is more consistent and seasoned NFL Q.B….Green Bay has more tradition and would put Sanchez in a vise( Mathews, Hawk,Etc.) if they would meet..Mark is getting better but his upside is simply more shallow for his career longevity compared to Aaron a potential Super star All pro QB..reminds me of Brady in many ways..his last 3 years were outstanding, got better each year..

  5. NFL Mike says:

And this is the guy that’s complaining….

I’m str8 and all but if some football player wanna be player, and some also wanna be models, who cares. Sounds like Rodgers needs to relax.

  6. newenglandguy says:

sounds to me that aarons is jealous? I guess winning the superbowl wasn’t enough .

  7. hotdog$stilllive says:

Get real….Rodgers has class, That’s the fundamental difference between the two QB’s. All the photo ops in the world won’t compensate for that! Go Packers!

  8. football-fan says:

Ok, if wearing the white pickle-pants and wife beater with racing stripes wasn’t enough, the multi-decade combo-set of 70′s “adult film” glasses and Joe Namath mothball coat topped with 80′s “Gordon Getko-Wall Street” hair really screams WTF. Even the 90′s boy-bands recovery groups and Justin Beaver fan clubs are laughing at this one.
Guess Sanchez didn’t read the Tom Brady “Style for QB’s” guide when lounging at Starbucks.

  9. Jerz says:

throw the coat maker in jail for killing that animal…oh wait it’s not a dog so it doesnt matter

  10. Jake says:

If you actually heard the interview you would know Rodgers is joking. He pokes fun at people all the time. He said he can’t watch Matthews’ pregame rituals because it’s “ridiculous” and that that “I’m [Rodgers] from nothern California, and act like it. He [Matthews] is from southern California and acts like it.” And that was him joking also. He f**ks with peoples heads in other words.

  11. randy landsem says:

what the hell is thinking why would u have muscle shirt with a big old jacket aaron is right mark just young and screwed the usc football program up he was probably taking money pete and the crew got of dodge in hurry

  12. ds says:

He looks really gay…..and that aint a good thing

  13. JS says:

Well, if he was joking why didn’t he come out later and say it? I’ve lost respect for him. You don’t knock another NFL quarterback. What would be embarrasing is for Sanchez to repay Rodgers by kicking the packers a*s*s in the Super Bowl or perhaps for Rodgers to do a photo session next to Elsie the cow out in some Wisconsin cornfield.

  14. RJC says:

Wow… looks like a bunch of you clown’s have a little PMS going on. Sounds like you don’t like SB-MVP dissin’ your ‘man crush’. No harm done – Go back to jerkin to your GQ poster.

  15. Ed says:

GQ?..Looks more like Sanchez was audtitioning for the cover of Tiger Boys or Twinks R Us….

  16. d1ck nuggets says:

Word on the street is that Aaron is mad at Mark for not calling him back after a night of hot b*tt sex…..

  17. Jorge Govea says:

like we care about what aron say

  18. Mug says:

I’d be more embarrassed by Ty-ran-a-soar-ass Rex and his comment for Cowboy fans to leave their Cowboy attire at home. What a douche. Are Jet fans that obnoxious that you can’t even root for your favorite team? They paid for their ticket and should be able to enjoy the game. Perhaps Rex know that his fans suck and wanted to protect them. For Sanchez, he sucks and is overrated. Pretty boy will come out of the closet soon!!

  19. frannie says:

    If Brett Favre had done the spread it would be embarassing; if Aaron Rodgers had done it, ditto;

    Mark Sanchez — it’s hot!!

  20. JS says:

Well, Mug, Rex is right. Meadowlands stadium should be filled with Jet jerseys, not some phony SB pretenders that who probably won’t make the playoffs. Cowgirl fans have known not to wear their jerseys in Philly for years. I say make it that way in all of the stadiums. Rex knows how to motivate his guys and says things for a reason. In NY you take advantage of the media, which is exactly what Sanchez did. If you’re a star in NY, you take advantage of it. He did and got paid. So what?

  21. Pete says:

Yo Rodgers, shut up and play football.

  22. Brian D says:

Embarrassing? what’s embarrassing is aaron rodgers crying roughing the passer everytime he gets touched. last time i checked QB’s also wore pads and helmets. rodgers is a primadonna, or b*tch whatever you wanna call it.I don’t hear sanchez complaining everytime he gets hit.

  23. njwalnuts says:

aaron rogers is a crybaby, roughing the passer p@ssy! and brett favre already releashed his own pics of his pinky pecker! sanchez looks like he a jersey shore homo! but the kid in NY and doin his thing! go jets

  24. rodgers haters and idiot jets fans with homo qb,

you assholes write like 4th graders——any of you crackheads
    got your ged ?

  25. Sven says:

Aaron’s right. Mark looks like an inconsistent, mediocre, interception ridden, lucky-to-be-on-a-good-team, tight pants wearing douchebag. Oh…he is. Only douchebags wear lined winter jackets with summer outfits.

  26. Kendall says:

Aww, Come on guys, Don’t be too hard on him for getting some publicity. If I most of us were still that age, condition, and had the looks we would do the same. Aaron’s a great quarterback (but not male model material) and it’s beneath someone of his stature to start criticizing other players for of the field things.

  27. Rastaman says:

Gay Rod’s just jealous. Check out the pasty skin, love handles and farmer’s tan on the second picture at this link:

    http://www.thesportsbank.net/nfl/why-do-so-many-people-think-aaron-rodgers-is-gay/

  28. Meme says:

Aw come on guys, Aaron Rodgers can have his own opinion. I’m sure a few other quarterbacks would have said the same thing. I bet ya he wasn’t even trying to offend Sanchez…
