Oh, Snap! Aaron Rodgers Calls Mark Sanchez’s GQ Spread ‘Embarrassing’

By on September 7, 2011 at 11:10 am

Get it? Snap? Like how they’re both quarterbacks? Jeez, you people are hard to please.

On to the story: during a radio appearance by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on ESPN Milwaukee, the topic of New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez’s highly stylized photo spread in the September issue of GQ came up. Let’s just say Rodgers was not very impressed with his colleagues foray into fashion.

Via Pro Football Talk:

“Look at this,” Rodgers said. “That’s embarrassing. Page 94 of the GQ thing here. That’s terrible.”

Ooh! Quarterback Cat Fight! The photo Rodgers is referring to is the one you see directly above. And to be honest, I am inclined to agree with him. Nice white pants with black muscle shirt with white trim. I assume the fur-like coat is an homage to another Jets quarterback of yesteryear, Joe Namath, but that doesn’t necessarily make it right.

But in defense of Sanchez, there is this: he has to play up this kind of thing, considering he is a high profile player playing in high profile New York. Rodgers isn’t subjected to the standards Sanchez is held to living in Green Bay. And let’s be honest: if Rodgers donned that fur coat (or faux fur, whatever it is) and walked around Green Bay, some hunter might accidentally mistake him for wild game. And that wouldn’t be good.

Rodger is sipping on some HATER-ADE!!! Good for Mark… GREAT FOR THE LADIES! ;)

    • Johnathan says:

last time i check mark sanchez is a NFL quarterback period! not some sissy model. Ladies if you want models go check redbook cosmo. this is the NFL the NO FEMALE LEAGUE!!!!!!

      • Mdeezie says:

Seriously? The NO FEMALE LEAGUE? This is the 2011 season, lots of ladies love football…. You must be stuck in the dirty south.

        • pchemboy says:

In the “dirty south”? Really? You stereotypical moron. I am from the south and will assure you that I am much better educated, possess much better manners and have a much better knowledge base than you on football. Keep your arrogant, ignorant mouth shut and people will like you a lot better.

          • goeagles says:

hahahaha!!!! you possess much better football manners? that’s really funny…. what exactly are football manners? As for manners in general, and your so called higher education, what’s respectful about talking down to a female? If you were more educated you could make her feel bad about calling it the “dirty south” without calling her a moron. If that is the kind of language you use then I can’t assume your education is any higher than the third grade.

            • fromthenorth says:

              goeagles wins.

football manners may have to be my new fantasy team name…

              • JV says:

Neither one of you, goeagles or fromthenorth, apparently never learned how to read properly…or you just have no ability when it comes to comprehension. No where does it say that he has football manners. Simply stated, he possesses manners, has more football knowledge than the individual making the ignorant comment about the “dirty south”. I guess you all have bragging rights though with Jersey Shore on your side…

            • pchemboy says:

who said anything about football manners? Learn to read moron.

          • Jonathan says:

At least their making a big deal over a white quarterback, and their not snicker-lickers….those are the worst!

        • Moxie Dawn says:

It is never a good idea to respond to a hateful comment with another hateful comment. It only leads downhill, as the comments clearly show. And as a woman and a football fan, I feel very hurt by the “dirty south” comment. Times have changed. We have come a long way from the days of George Wallace and Bull Connor. If it is wrong to label people based on their sex, their race, their religion or their appearance, it is also wrong to label people based on their region of the country.

        • Sharon says:

You had me until I read, “dirty south”. Seriously?

      • Rocket says:

Seriously Jonathan????? Dude… “No FEMALE league”? I hate to throw stones or even attempt to stereotype you. The rest of you know what I am thinking…. So do you Jonathan. Grow UP!! The more females the better!!!!!

      • Ciji says:

He isn’t from the SOUTH. . . because here in the SOUTH . . . we all LOVE FOOTBALL – Friday Night Lights – SEC on Saturday and NFL on Sunday and Monday! It’s a Religion for us in the deep south! As far as Rodgers – I think it was poor sportsmanship to speak the way he did – if it’s not his style – that’s fine and dandy – but how is it embarassing for him or the NFL? As far as Sanchez’s photo – i odn’t care for the skinny jeans – it’s a bit too metro – we ladies like our manly football players to look manly – at least this lady does :) for instance – Jeremy Shockey’s cover shot for ESPN MAG – YUMMY!

      • GET REAL says:

What would football be without women and also MY wife and I root for Auburn and the Cowboys…Every Saturday and sunday we are watching them in HD….And about the South don’t stereotype us…that is just ignorant….I mean really The SEC has produced more CHampionships than any other conference.

        • Martin says:

No, you need to “get real”, and informed. The SEC does NOT have the most natl championships in football. That honor belongs to the Ivy league schools, and secondly to the Big Ten conferance. So which are you…a liar, or just ignorant?? Ahhhh, you’re both!

          Recognized National Championships
          1.Ivy League-69 (Princeton 28, Yale 26, Harvard 7, Penn 7, Dartmouth 1)
          2-BIG10- 40 (Michigan-11, Minnesota-6, Ohio State-7, Illinois-4 ,Michigan State-4, Penn State-4, Iowa-1
          3 – SEC-30 (Alabama-12, Tennessee-4, LSU-4, Florida-3, Ga- 2, Arkansas-1, Auburn-2, Ole Miss-2 )
          4- BIG12- 19 (Oklahoma-7, Nebraska-5, Texas-4, Texas A&M-2, Colorado-1)
          5- PAC10- 15 (Southern Cal-8, Cal-4, Stanford-1, Washington-1, UCLA-1)
          6- ACC- 14 (Miami-5, Ga.Tech-4, Maryland-1, Fla St.-2, Clemson-1, Boston College-1)
          7- BIG EAST- 10 (Pittsburgh-9, Syracuse-1)

          • Steve says:

Hey get real, by adding up your figures, football started in 1814. I really don’t think the Ivy league counts because that’s the only league that was around in the 1800′s. LOL

            • Jonathan says:

Ya thats like saying babe ruth is the best hitter ever in baseball when he played before black/hispanic guys were allowed to pitch.

          • Tyrone Shoelaces says:

Martin – according to your data, there have been 197 national championships awarded in football. The first of which, according to your post, would have occurred in somewhere around 1815. Which is about 65 years before Walter Camp created what is considered to be “modern American football.”

I think those national championships were in sports other than football.

        • Mark Simmons says:

Yeah, you really cant count Princeton, but they won there first championship in 1869, there record was 1-1, it was also awarded retroactive, they won in 1870 also with a record of 1-0. As far as I can tell they were never consensus National champions

      • Connie says:

Are you nuts, I love Football, I can’t wait for fall to come and dread when the season is over

      • Ike says:

Get real Jonathan! You are just jealous of Mark…”if you got it, flaunt it!” Football is for everyone…Not just for men!!!!

      • Sharon says:

Last time I checked, this is still a free country. Mark Sanchez is easy one the eyes. What’s wrong with the picture? Personally, I think he’s much better looking than Rodgers. This is the NFL, and since the fanbase is made up largely of females, “the NFL the NO FEMALE LEAGUE” is a crock. Suck it up, Buttercup J, the ladies are here to stay!

    • Lynn Pauly says:

Ummmm…. I’m a lady, and I think it’s embarrassing. Yipes. What is up with those tight white jeans, anyway? Give me a pair of Brett Favre’s Wranglers anyday!

    • Kate says:

I don’t think that it’s ladies he’s supposed to be appealing to in that outfit. I’m just sayin’.

    • Peggy says:

I think I just might start watching football!

    • adam jansen says:

Great pic, all you need is some red stilettos and matching lipstick then your ready for the rainbow room. Mark your mom called and wants her pants back. Go Rodgers!!!

  2. Jade says:

Rogers is sooo right. Mark, c’mon this display sends messages that can be taken in many way. You’re a good looking man and a strong icon in the NFL- stick to portraying that!

  3. Matt says:

I had the chance to meet Rodgers at the ESPY’s. I am a Bear fan, but thought he seemed pretty cool as a person until I meet him. Egotistical toolbox. Full of himself. Hid behind Matthews all night and acted like he was a God. Enjoy your slump year d-head

    • Boovers says:

Slump year? Finley and Grant coming back after missing basically the entire season last year, and you’re predicting a slump? Rodgers managed to continue his success with play action despite the total absence of a running game. He’s going to absolutely embarrass defenses this year. And the best part, he gets to do it to the Bears…TWICE!

    • Packer fan says:

Ever think that Rodgers gets tired of every Tom, Dick (that would be you) and Harry running up to him expecting gracious and welcoming conversation. Rodgers most likely doesnt WANT to talk to you nor does he care about YOU….why should he? Secondly the guy is a GOD on the field and was the MVP of the Superbowl an accolade that only a handful of men have attained. Boo Hoo Rodgers snubbed you, I bet you had a Bears jersey on…I’m surprised Matthews didn’t sack your arse just for approaching the elite QB that Rodgers is. Go cry in your beer…by the way the Bears still suck!

    • MarkLikesMen says:

Embarrassing for sure. As for Aaron, I know him personally. I live in GB, and yeah, he is not egotistical at all. He is very down to earth and generous to our GB community. If you think he is egotistical, you obviously don’t know him. Just another sore losing bears fan….

  4. renaldo taylor says:

rodgers sounds jealous lets hope he isnt as catty on the field

  5. Ladies says:

Jonathon, lets see a picture of you..
If you look half as good as Mark, you have room to talk.
Oh yeah, PR from NFL said Ladies are half are fan base.
They love ladies and so do the player…

  6. Chairman says:

Jonnathan is jelous and doesn’t want to share Mark with the ladies!

  7. Lori says:

Mark Sanchez looks very good in the pic. I like it.

  8. jimmy says:

it is embarrassing. why doesn’t he act like a real football player and beat his girfriend, drive drunk, or kill a dog?

  9. zanie says:

Meow! Rodgers needs to get over himself. I love Sanchez’s pic. Very HOT and he can play ball like nobody’s business. Yeah, I’d tap that!

  10. Sandy says:

Sanchez is my home town boy. He looks awesome. He can stop at my house anytime.

  11. Jamie says:

I’m a woman who loves FB and the JETS!!! I have to say he went a little far with the sunglass pic but we have players who have attacked women been involved in murders animal toture and these guys still get the respect. If Rodgers wanted to stay out of the public why are you doing interviews and commenting on this stuff that is so stupid and useless to the FB season.

  12. Paulette says:

The hard core guys may not like the idea of him modeling but
atleast give him props for being in GQ which is a very tasteful up scale magazine. Nothing but the best in men’s wear I say. For you guys who don’t have a clue about ‘bumping up’ a couple of notches from your t-shirts and work boots, I can’t help ya. All I know is when a man decides to show me what he’s working with (in clothes) every now and then, it turns some of us women on. :)

  13. Annie says:

Wonderful photo, this hoohaa is just the green eyed monster rearing it’s ugly head.

  14. Stephanie Felix says:

    I like it!!

  15. LoLo says:

I can understand both points of you; Rodgers speaks strictly from a narrow view of what images are appropriate for a star athlete. But this isn’t some sports’ magazine, this is GQ! where a very metrosexual view of men’s fashion prevails, no one should be the least surprised, bet the stylist had a field day treating this guy like some kind of ken doll. Be that as it may, the guy pulls it off. My opinion, Sanchez got masculinity in spades, to project manliness while wearing white jeggins (beyond “skynni” dude!!), a silk tank top with match white piping and a frigging Shearling Coat in the summer, (mad gay!) and come through the other side of that mess still looking good and masculine, not easy feat! Kudos to you Sanchez!

  16. KC says:

Oh good grief! If this is the worst thing he does then so be it….let’s get over it and play some football people!!!

  17. Sparklegirl says:

There are plenty of women athletes that have done photo shoots as well. What’s good for the goose…. Wonder if Rodgers criticizes/complains about those sexy female athletes that pose for a fashion layout. I think not…..

When you got the looks, and women like to look too…… show it off baby.
    I’ll be waiting for MORE!!!

  18. TGC says:

I cant believe a story this lame has recieved this much attention. Rogers was asked a question on a local ESPN station, answers with a 14 word response, and that is somehow turned into a story? Really.. who cares. I bet that both Aaron and Mark are laughing at how this supposed story has been hyped into news.

  19. Doodguy says:

You ladies are excited about “Dirty” Sanchez?
The guy who raped a woman in college and the school made it go away because he is a star? The guy who was banging a 17 year old in her mommy’s house?

The guy is a entitled scumbag who would have done time if he was an average joe.

    • TGC says:

Wow… now that would be a story. Have any proof to back it up?

    • Doodguy says:

      Los Angeles Times reported:

Los Angeles Police Department officers took the 19-year-old redshirt freshman into custody about 4 p.m., after a female USC student told police she had been sexually assaulted by Sanchez in the early morning. Sanchez, from Mission Viejo, was arrested at the Cardinal Gardens apartment complex at 3131 McClintock Ave.

Police would not say where the alleged assault occurred.

The security system at a nearby club Sanchez visited late Tuesday night shows him leaving at 12:59 a.m. Wednesday.

      [...]

Witnesses to the arrest said the area just north of campus was swarming with police and campus safety officers as Sanchez and sophomore linebacker Brian Cushing were led away from Building E in the sprawling complex.

Cushing was released at the scene.

      • TGC says:

I dont know where I was when this story broke about Sanchez, but I never heard it. That is a story worthy of the news. Its to bad if it is true.

But some fluff story about Rogers answering a question about Sanchez photo shoot in GQ and it was on ESPN radio and MSN how Rogers is RIPPING Sanchez. It turned out to be a total non story.

      • Mary Jackson says:

Just because they “took” him…does NOT mean they “booked” him. Nothing kills faster than ignorance/lies/rumors/gossip…that being said, I suppose I better go do some research…from citeable resources…who ACTUALLY have some noteworthy info worth repeating :)

  20. Shane says:

I just cant figure out why he’s hanging out in the nose bleed seats in a wife beater and a fur coat. Who thought that was a good idea for a photo?

  21. Butch says:

One mustache away from being Freddie Mercury

  22. Angelina says:

Hahahaha! I love Aaron Rodgers, he’s totally right. Sanchez looks like a tool and an idiot. Who gives a rip if he’s a great player; he looks like a clown in this picture! Aaron Rodgers can say whatever he wants! He’s a Super Bowl MVP, gets tons of ass and money and doesn’t care what the competition thinks. Quit giving him so much flack for saying what we all think.

  23. GML12 says:

I think Sanchez is doing nothing wrong by posing. If female athletes can take sexy photos then why not male athletes? Personally as a female, I am all for Sanchez modeling. We have cheer-leading calendars, now we should have a little something for the female football fans.

    • Mary Jackson says:

      Agreed :)
The only thing that is REALLY embarrassing about this photo…is that our own society STILL supports such double standards; although I would not exactly compare Sanchez to the cheerleaders as I would NOT want to see or imagine him modeling during half-time (the implied correlation/connection in your post is unintentional-I’m sure), but as far as outside of the game–that’s a different story. Any calendar would be fine. Fair is fair :)

      • GML12 says:

When he isn’t doing his job as QB he can do modeling. I said nothing about modeling during games. And yes fair is fair.

    • Ciji says:

GML – this is NOT what most women would classify as SEXY – maybe a gay man would. . . but i would like to think most women would not define this as “SEXY” . . . I mean look at how tight those pants are. . . his brotherhood is in a serious bind!!

  24. bjean says:

I guess Sanchez has a thing for 17 yr old girls… first the rape charge when he was in college and then last year’s flack over buying drinks for a 10th grader. I don’t get it… he probably can get any woman he sets his cap for… but he keeps going for the jail bait.

  25. raynebow says:

It’s real nice we all have our opinions, but do you really think Sanchez gives a rats azz about what we think. He’s gonna cash his checks and keep it moving. I just hope he plays ball better than he models, heeheee. JK, I don’t care what he does, he’s not my QB!!!!

  26. skiz915 says:

Regardless of how questionable his attire is, the bottom line is cash. What would it cost in endorsements for you to dress like that?

I live in Green Bay. That outfit would be more at risk of getting shot without the jacket! I’m glad our quarterbeck has pride that outweighs greed.

  27. dale says:

what a potentially homophobic sounding comment from the GB QB… why even LOOK at the inside of GQ if you’re so offended by guys in fashion wear? I don’t like guys in fashion wear (and I’m GAY!) so I don’t look at GQ! So, what is Aaron’s excuse then? WHY look at Mark in the GQ? Just to be hateful, or because he desires to see men in fancy clothes? I don’t get it? You can’t say it’s “embarrassing” and then still claim you look at GQ for the clothes they show throughout it, because someone who does that wouldn’t call it embarrassing. It really makes Aaron appear really low class. And, frankly, despite being a huge packer fan since Favre came in 93, I really cringed when Aaron held up that wrestling belt! That “sport” screams closet case! My friend’s husband said that she swears he’s a closet case because he stares at the men so deeply while she’s watching him from the kitchen, but he reads his comics while the women are in the ring! LOL

    • TGC says:

He was asked about it by some radio host.. its not like Rogers made a point to bring it up on his own. Besides Rogers comment was so brief, I dont understand how anyone can extract as much as you did from 14 words. I respect your opinion, but it seems like alot of people are projecting their feelings into it, and not just taking it for what it is.
A brief coment made on a local radio show.

    • First and foremost I’m certain Rodgers was thinking about how this photo represents the NFL! It’s disgraceful and embarrassing that these hardened men play a very physical game only to laughed at by the general public when something like this happens.

I would be willing to bet from the commish on down to the equipment guys would either say or think something worse that wasnt as PC as what Rodgers said.

Even Sanchez himself has said he’s taking a lot of flak from his teammates…ah you think?

He looks like he ready to lead the Rainbow parade!!

  28. Zeke says:

It’s just a Northern Cal. guy, ribbing a preppy, metro-sexual Southern Cal. guy. Nothing more……

  29. sigo says:

Hey guys, leave that for the ladies. Mark is a very attractive guy. Thanks MARK for allow us see that part of you. I am going to get the magazine!!!

  30. Stella Blue says:

And didn’t I see Mr. Rodgers sporting a Frank Zappa/David Crosby fu-manchu mustache during an exhibtion game? At least Mr. Sanchez is UP-TO-DATE with his look (and he is very HOT btw)…so what gives with the comments? Jealous Aaron?

  31. huddah says:

    GO REDSKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rodgers has nothing on what rypien overcame!!!!!! lol

and if Green Bay somehow pulls this off again this year well all I have to say is I’m happy for ya, but you still live in Brown County…… lmao.

Sad how those folks are taken advantage of by the man behind that curtain upstairs in that stadium turned shopping mall.

NoW everyone get your tickets and come to a reaL nfl EXPERIENCE AT FED EX FIELD!!!!!! Skins BABY!!!!!

    • Go Redskins….have they even been relevant since John Riggins? Answer would be no so ZIP IT! Lambeau field was rated the #1 venue AND fan experience in ALL of Pro sports you mindless twit. Fed Ex field a real NFL experience ha ha that’s rich!

Enjoy yet another year of over paying for a losing effort!

  32. Louis says:

Rodgers Jealous? pretty much so.. also, Americans have lost CLASS period. We’ve become too THUGGY, tattoos, baggy pants, caps worn sideways……NO…i guess ghettos have really taken a stronghold on us. i can tell you one thing, i dress with class and who ever calls me gay i can kick some ess. Girls love it.

    • Ciji says:

Just please tell me you don’t htink TIGHT WHITE JEANS are classy? More like 70′s prostitute. . .give me a man in straight leg – or boot cut . . . flat front slacks or worn jeans. . there is nothing classy about this outfit! I don’t care for the baggy – hang to the floor with your butt hanging out and thug look. . .but this is not classy. . . jus sayin :)

  33. Chachi says:

I can’t believe how weak Sanchez’s arms look. Doesn’t a QB usually have muscular arms?

  34. jj says:

really people talking smack about a guy wearing tight jeans when all football players wear are tight leggins all they need is a few tutus..now thats embarrasing

    • Ciji says:

JJ – there is a difference in Uniform tight pants worn for protection. .then a grown man in tight white jeans small enough for my 12 year old daughter to wear! come on. . . . . there is no comparison!

  35. Megan says:

Johnathan, If the NFL was the “No Female League”, then why did they come out with a whole line of woman’s clothing??? I mean, it takes a real man to make sexist remarks while hiding behind a keyboard. Grow up.

    • Krysteen says:

Ya and he is probably the first to watch the Lingerie bowl….I know alot of women that are totally into football and not just for the men, but for the game. And, alot of them know just as much if not more than some men. For me its an adrenaline rush! I live and breath football

  36. Larry J says:

It should be noted that the NCAA does not recognize a National Championship in football as there is no tournament format to declare a true national champion in a fair unbiased way.
** It should also be noted that the list below are “Division-1″ and before there were multiple

Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Which_college_football_conference_has_won_the_most_national_championships#ixzz1XOTdpiCGThis is in response to the most championships, if you count the conference with the most number one teams in the polls the SEC leads with 6

  37. Colts #1 FAN says:

Too bad he don’t look this good on the field!!! .

  38. marklikesguys says:

Give Sanchez a break, looks to me like he’s just out trying to get a boyfriend… We all know the gays run deep in New York and they dont like tough guys there. Just look up why the UFC isnt allowed to do fights in that state….

  39. longislandtea123 says:

I say good for Mark..Aaron is just jealous because GQ didn’t ask him..besides I personally would rather see him in a GQ ad than to be like some of these other player like Clay Matthews, and Troy Polamalu with their shampoo commericals and there is goofy looking Blaine Gabbert who was afraid if he didn’t go in the first round of the draft he wouldn’t get a chance at a shampoo spot. Then cried to management that he was afraid of the rookie initiation so Jack Del Rio bans ‘em…

  40. BradyRULES2011 says:

    “Men” don’t wear WHITE jeans…PERIOD!!!!!
The J-E-T-S have a shemale leading the offense

how could anyone wear his jersey now??

  41. Garry says:

More Freddie Mercury than Mercury Morris.

  42. Krysteen says:

I dont like the white skinny jeans….. I think what Aaron is trying to say by embarrassing is that Sanchez looks like a pansy with his white skinny jeans and black top with white border and fur/faux fur hanging from his shoulder. Real football men should look rough, rugged and tough…

  43. ellen says:

sounds like rodgers is a bit jealous mark is hot no matter what he wears

  44. JR says:

Lets play some football enough said. at the end rodgers will be in the superbowl sanchez at home and i am not a GB fan

  45. andrea says:

sanchez looks like a douche. i don’t picture good looking manly football players dressed in white pants and black muscle shirts with fur coats. it’s EXTREMELY unattractive and un-manly (and football is very manly!).

  46. Ron says:

Anyone not think this guy looks gay as hell in that picture? Come on now Snachez get a grip and start thinking for yourself. You look gay as hell. No that isn’t good.

  47. MDB says:

Sanchez looks like he is trying to entice more Gays to be football fans. Not appealing to straight chicks who dig men with fu manchu facial hair like ARodg.

  48. Titans5 says:

I don’t know why the conversation turned away from the topic at hand, but I would like to chime in at this time. When you are a celebrity you have to be marketable. Sanchez being both a celeb and a football player has to be able to car his market on both on and off the field. I see nothing wrong with marketing himself and his team at the same time. We would not expect this from Aaron Rogers and because this is not the market he is in, but best beleive if he was a QB in the big apple we would see him not Sanchez in this same position.

  49. Chuck Brooks says:

I am Southern, and a Gentleman…and Mr. Sanchez has a right to pose and prim however he choose’s…Mr. Rodgers has a right to ”comment”, but as most ”jocks” tend to do, they go negative. I am at 51 years of age..jockless…but back in the Day…I do see very negative comments about other posters and less about Mr. Sanchez..I do wonder what all the friction is about?

  50. chriscaptain says:

hahaha you are all arguing on a website, soooo you are all idiots.. as for the quarterback that is pretty embarrassing, but he probably made bank so who really cares
