LeBron James Takes To His Website, Displays Sense Of Class, Congratulates Mavericks

The text of LeBron’s message, where he congratulates the Dallas Mavericks, thanks his fans, teammates and coaches:

Congratulations Mavericks on the championship

…especially Dirk, J.Kidd, & Terry who have done so much for our league and worked so hard to get here. They deserve all the credit for what they have accomplished.Thank you to all my family, friends and especially the fans for standing by me this year.Miami fans are incredible.A special thank you to my teammates, coaches and Pat Riley and Micky Arison for all of their support.A lot to learn from this year, a lot to build on, and a lot of work to do this summer.

I’ve been hating on LeBron here at the Sportress all season, but I’ll admit that this was a classy maneuver by King James. Finally. It demonstrates a humility not seen from James in, well, perhaps ever.

Good on you, LeBron. Maybe we’ve been wrong about this guy. Maybe he can figure it out after all.

“Good on you”?? That presupposes (1) he wrote it, and (2) he means it. I don’t believe either one.

Giving Lebaby way too much credit. This is PR damage control to keep the dollars coming in. Classy wouldn’t have a autograph with his number. Classy would have included an apology.

Too little, too late. This letter is exactly what reporters have been saying he should have done immediately after the game — 2 days later. Total damage control.

No one gives him a break at all, huh? What has he done to you personally. Why should he apologize? Did the Mavs apologize for their trash talking? Everyone loves to say he and the heat are “classless” but who started with the negative comments? It wasn’t the Heat. It was the Mavs. Who started the brawl in game 6? It was the Mavs. Why are you all such haters? Are you even Dallas fans? If you are congrats on your win, your team deserved. If your not, shut up! You have no room to talk… Including the Cavs fans.

I’ve never followed Lebron in the past, but his story piqued my interest when I read so much negative press about him and the Heat this winter, especially after “Crygate”. When other storied fanchises lost five in a row, no big deal, but the Heat were vilified. I watched them come together as a team, and I watched with some admiration as Lebron maintained his cool in the face of the Mav’s language. He’s grown this year and I dearly hope he plays more in the low post and gets the championships he and the Heat want. His flaws are human and we all have things we could improve upon. The media is pandering to the hate and envy of warped portion of the public. Not everyone hates or disrespects you. Make the changes you need to make personally and professionally, and I’ll be smiling when you finally win the championship. You can do it big fella.
