Woman Kills Ginormous Alligator, Enrages Animal Rights People

Pictured above is Maryellen Mara-Christian, a 48-year-old unemployed banking employee and her impressive hunting trophy: a 13 1/2-foot long, 1,025-pound alligator the Massachusetts native killed while hunting with her husband in South Carolina. Even more impressive than the size of the beast? How Mara-Christian put it down (via the AP report):

The .22-caliber gun they used wasn’t powerful enough to put the animal down, so Mara-Christian used a knife to sever the alligator’s spinal cord.

Bad. Ass. This woman is tougher than I will ever dream to be. Of course, not everyone is happy with the woman legally taking the animal.

Video and the vitriolic response by so-called animal lovers to the story follows.

Not surprisingly, everywhere this woman’s story was reported, animal lovers came out of the woodwork to condemn the fact she killed the alligator. A sampling, courtesy of the New York Daily News:

“This woman should be in jail, not on TV,” one commenter writes on Carolinaliveive.com, a South Carolina news channel website.

“This is trophy hunting at its worst,” writes another on Cbsnews.com.

“They tortured that alligator for hours. That’s just plain sick,” a commenter writes on Bostonherald.com.

Excellent. But perhaps the most well-reasoned and insightful condemnation I came across was on YouTube, eloquently put forth by one bananaficator:

We should drop a nuke on her house.. try to shoot that bitch!

Brilliant. Truly, there are few things more sensible than harshly criticizing what one believes to be a senseless act of violence than the threat of further senseless violence. Especially when said responsive act of violence is of the nuclear variety.

This woman should be ashamed of herself.Hunting Alligator that was minding it’s business was barbaric and even for one second I don’t believe this shameless woman’s story. These couple would have shot the poor animal at the first instance and cooked up story of fighting a 1100 pound alligator for hours.Proper autopsy would have revealed exactly what took place

I see the killing of the 1,025 pound alligator by this woman as sad, so sad. The creature managed to survive long enough to reach that weight and for fun and bragging rights, and possibly just to brove that she’s as brave and rugged as a man this woman killed him brutally. When I hear and see such violence I am ashamed to be homo sapien. The allilgator only kills, quickly, for food and protection. Homo sapiens have the ability to kill for “fun,.”

Bunny huggers are always worried about individuals instead of the species as a whole, which is where logical-minded biologists and hunters place their concerns. We are on top of the food chain. There is no more shame in a human killing and eating an alligator than a lion killing and eating a zebra. Most of the famous bunny huggers of today are also atheists who believe we crawled onto land from the ocean millions of years ago, then climbed a tree, then jumped back down. If you all would compare us to being animals like the lion or the bear, is it not then logical that we consume prey such as they would a gazelle or deer? Your arguments are baseless and nonsensical. Please stop talking about animal rights and trying to convince us that we are not ourselves animals when it is convenient for your argument. You are all a bunch of idiots that have nothing better to do than to try to bring attention to what you feel subconsciously as your own meaningless existence. Every time you all speak, you confirm this.

When a lion kills a gazelle does it mount the head on the wall..or does it only go after the one with the biggest antlers to impress other lions? No, it kills to eat, to survive…people on the other hand kill for pleasure, to get a trophy, and thats where I have a problem..I wouldnt deny anyone the right to hunt…I just think a lot of people who say they hunt for the meat are full of it…In my opinion Killing should be done to survive and not a hobby on the weekends, or to put a head on your wall or a rug on your floor…but to each his own
